News
Giorgi Jincharadze, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, accompanied by Anzor Margiani, Deputy Chairman and other government members, visited the Saburtalo Brothers' Cemetery, where they laid flowers at the grave of Georgia's national hero Geno Adamia and paid tribute to his memory.
The ceremony was also attended by members of General-Major Geno Adamia’s family, as well as veterans.
General-Major Geno Adamia lost his life on September 28, 1993, the day after the fall of Sokhumi, near the Kelasuri River Bridge, while en route to strengthen defensive positions with his fellow soldiers.
On September 22, 2020, Geno Adamia was posthumously awarded the title of National Hero of Georgia.
He was also honored with the Order of Vakhtang Gorgasali, in both the 1st and 3rd classes.
In commemoration of the fall of Sokhumi, the play "Sea Theater" was presented on the stage of the Sokhumi State Drama Theater.
Directed by Alexander Eloshvili, the performance addresses the significance of theater and the struggle for creative freedom. The play, presented by the Giorgi Ratiani Youth Theater, tells the story of young, enthusiastic individuals in exile who dream of opening a theater in the city. Despite numerous adventures and obstacles, they manage to achieve their goal. However, how long they will be able to continue is unknown.
The performance was attended by Giorgi Jincharadze, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, representatives of Georgia's executive and legislative authorities, members of the Abkhazian government, deputies of the Supreme Council, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia, clergy, and families of national heroes.
This cultural event was made possible through the support of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia and the Ministry of Education and Culture of Abkhazia.
The winners of the 2023 stage I of the “Successful Youth Support Program" of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia's Ministry of Education and Culture have been revealed.
Based on an evaluation of the applications received, 106 successful students with the highest results were funded.
The II stage of Acceptance of applications for the “Successful Youth Support Program" will be announced in May.

Within the framework of this sub-program, the students of Public school of Abkhazia are participating in the regional games of the School Sports Olympiad this year as well.
On April 10, the final volleyball match (boys) was played between the teams of public schools of Abkhazia N10 and N 7. The winner is the team of Public School of Abkhazia N7. On behalf of Abkhazia the girls' volleyball team from Public School of Abkhazia N7 will be competing.
The Minister of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia Eka Khoperia met the representatives of the American Embassy in Georgia and its partner international organizations.
The meeting initiated by the American Embassy was attended by: special guest from Washington, Assistance Coordinator for Europe Maria Longhi, Tamar Khergiani -grants manager of US Embassy Tbilisi, director of PH-international representative office in Georgia Berdia Natsvlishvili, executive director of CENN Nana Janashia and head of projects Giorgi Orkodashvili.
Educational Projects like online schools, distance learning, English language classes for IDP students financed and support through the US Embassy Tbilisi, international organizations and the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia were discussed at the meeting. They talked over the future collaboration prospects after summarizing the accomplished results.
The US Embassy in Georgia is a trustworthy partner of Ministry of Education and Culture of A/R/ of Abkhazia and a significant financial supporter of educational projects.
On April 6, the Sokhumi State Drama Theater along with Theatrical group “Geo-lab” premiered the performance "We Play Kabuki," based on the traditional Japanese theater "Kabuki”. It is a mystical comedy based on the 15th century Japanese play “The Silk Lantern”, and tells the love story of a samurai and the ghost of a dead girl.
The director of the performance is Davit Papava, scenographer and costume designer - Molu, choreographer Natia Bunturi, and musical decoration belongs to Davit Sakvarelidze.
Eka Khoperia the Minister of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia attended the premiere, Japanese Ambassador to Georgia - Imamura Akira and Ryosei Suginaka the Cultural Attaché of the Japanese Embassy.
Milena Azhiba and Nino Papava, new members of the Sukhumi Theater troupe, made their debut in the play.
An unusually beautiful show built on the elements of the traditional Japanese theater "Kabuki" will be performed on the stage of the Sokhumi Drama Theater on April 7 and 8.

Within the framework of the program, students of the secondary school of Abkhazia No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 5, No. 6, No. 10, No. 11, No. 21 (Zugdidi, Kutaisi, Senaki, Poti, Tbilisi) in Shota Meskhi State University of Zugdidi and vocational schools. - "Mermis" College, "Iberia" College, "Lakada" College, "Fazis" College - participated in information tours.
Students learned the various kinds of programs at universities and colleges that will enable them to make the right professional choice in future.
The introduction and presentation of the English language course for IDP students from Abkhazia took place in Valery Arkania art gallery, as part of a partnership between the Ministry of Education and Culture of Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia and the US Embassy in Georgia.
Throughout the presentation Eka Khoperia, Minister of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, Alexander Daniels, Head of the Public Affairs Department of the American Embassy in Georgia, and Lia Gumberidze, Coordinator of English Language Program at the US Embassy Tbilisi, talked over the importance of creating English language course.
Yasnime Rice, a Fulbright English Language Assistant in Georgia, will teach English to the students over the course of several months. The introductory meeting was held on March 1st between the students and the teacher.
The aim of project is to assist the IDP students from Abkhazia to improve their English language skills.
The Guram Kurashvili State Choir of Abkhazia is the winner of "Georgian Brand Day 2022". Capella of Abkhazia received the award in the nomination "Reputation and Trust".
The event of the year - "Georgian Brand Day 2022" is 20 years old. The anniversary awarding ceremony was held at "Pullman Tbilisi Axis Towers" hotel.
